Important Suggestions for Project Managers.

Dear Technical Project Managers,

We all learn daily, we shall continue to do so regularly as to grow our managerial skills for improved performance. To help you all improve your skills and working style, I am putting together some of the tips & suggestions:

Related to Projects & Its execution method:

• Better use of OOPS and a good architecture to be followed on all projects, PM must be willing to learn, develop and manage new architectures.
• Improper way of tasks assignment without keeping an eye on the ability of a developer, is a big hurdle. We must have a better way of task-management, may be use OnTimeNow or basecamp for all tasks assignment to all developers.
• Commitment & Involvements of senior developers must be increased for the success of all projects, delegate your responsibilities gradually.
• Emphasize needed on Team Meetings for complete project or module-wise to explain the Business and coding Logic to all developers, periodic meetings are advised.
• Better if Project scope can be clearly defined, documented, flow-made and good timeframe/milestones estimation before starting it. Copy of final scope, features, flow DFD, milestones etc to be made available to all developers.
• Seniors/PL/TL must update their skills and knowledge for advance technologies and must lead the team from front instead of giving it as an excuse to client as if they do not know advance stuff.
• Coding/Testing Guideline to be revisited conveyed to all developers with proper briefing.

Additional Suggestions:

• Developers must be trained for basic CSS/HTML tasks and we must have a clearly defined rule of the kind of cases can be escalated to Designer Team for help and rest all should be managed by Developers, this is needed to avoid unnecessary burden and involvement of designers on coding issues.
• Make your own Quality expectations & Standards in your mind, make sure your developers know your expectations and do the same level of polished work after testing before sending to you.
• Periodically keep upgrading your own Technical Skills, do involve yourself more into all projects to get a good hold and successful delivery.
• Build your own capability of better documentation for Email Drafting Skills, Documentation Skills, SRS, DFD/Flow Diagram Creation, Wireframes creation etc.
• Start learning and plan to take PMP Certification. Something for this can be sponsored from Company for the right candidate.
• Make Project Plan for each project, get this followed, supervise and stick to it till project completion.
